The Devil's Interval: Blue Codex

This twelve page, thread bound, codex is assembled from cotton muslin, printed with cyanotype. Large format (8x10) view camera negatives were used to contact print the images. The words were typed on a manual typewriter, transferred to an ortho-litho emulsion using a twentieth century photographic enlarger, and contact printed under broken glass. The tune is a version of Blind Lemon Jefferson's "One Dime Blues," performed by roots musicians Rosalind Hartigan and Mike Kenyon.

In this codex version, the cover pages have been toned in tannic acid, but the internal pages retain the blue of untreated cyanotype. The rhythm of the pages replicates a twelve bar form.
