Caïssa is the European Enlightenment’s chess deity, invented by a poet, but no less a god, since all descend from poetry. I’d call this series a triptych, but each image retains a semblance of independence. Here, Caïssa emerges double on her board, bound by rules she invented, pawn as much as player. In this game, reflection contains more reality than materialized flesh, which acts as a kind of interruption, evoking the specular encounter between dream and force.
